How does online training work?


With the ongoing pandemic, online training has become the new norm. Have you been curious about how online training works and if it is right for you? Look no further as I explain the two most common forms.


There are two general routes a trainer can take when offering online training. The first is a one-to-one session, much like you would have in a gym, conducted via Zoom. This type of session is better for those who may be just starting out with exercise. They are unsure of proper form and generally need more "hands-on" coaching. It is also great for those who need close accountability services (i.e. motivation until routine sets in).


In this format, I'll send instruction videos ahead of each workout so you can get acquainted with the movement before I coach you through it. We'll hold sessions at a scheduled time and frequency each week. If you feel you need it, we can also have a short, end-of-week Zoom call to go over any concerns you may have. Typically we touch base with each session so this is not needed for most clients.


During the week I'll have you track your weight, calorie and protein intake, and perform some sort of light intensity cardio (like walking) in between our actual sessions.


The second option is a bit less involved. I'll provide those same workout videos - only you'll be performing the movement on your own, at a time that works for you. I will, however, have you provide me with quick videos of you performing the movement so I can ensure you are executing it correctly and avoiding any possibility of injury.


For this type of training, we will have end-of-week calls to check in. Like the first option, you'll also track your weight, calorie intake and perform some sort of light intensity cardio (like walking) in between the workouts I program for you.
