One thing you'll learn about me is that I love to change my perspective. Your perspective on things really is everything. It will shape the way you look at the world, your eating habits, and your life in general. Often times, our level of success or even progress can be directly related to what and how we think about a problem or situation. In today's world, it is so easy to get down in the dumps about just about anything. Naysayers are plentiful, and trolls seem to be creeping around every corner, waiting for the opportunity to burst someone's bubble.
And then there are our selves. We have negative thoughts about the extra two mini-donuts we had (yep, that was me today, except I thoroughly enjoyed mine:)). The point of all this is negative thoughts rarely help us progress. They only work to hold us back and down, so let me introduce you to eating with a purpose.
Eating with a purpose is creating a mindset based on goals. It is looking at food as a means to an end. It's setting a goal like losing 3% body fat. Finding what it will take to get to that goal (focus on adequate protein while lowering total daily calories). And analyzing food choices to determine if they meet the criteria to achieve that goal.
We tend to look at food in a pleasurable way. But what if we looked at food as fuel? If you want your car to go, you need to gas it up. If you want your body to run optimally, you need to fuel it with premium food choices. That does not mean to remove the lesser options but to fill your body with mainly quality food so you don't want the other options.
